Top 5 things to do with your Pokemon mad kid(s)
Top 5 things to do with your pokemon mad kid(s)
Happy Sunday my lovelies, it has been a while. The sun is shining, I have had several coffees and completed the housework BEFORE lunchtime YAY! My last few posts were not exactly rainbows and unicorn farts but I am getting there. So today I decided to do my 1st ever top 5. To be completely honest I WAS going to do a kind of No Man's Sky review thing but it would have been a little bit more moaning from me and i'm guessing you are probably sick of me moaning. So I asked myself WHAT could I do instead? Well this, of course.
So whether you are a poke-parent, or a newbie trainer with no clue about the wonderful world of pocket monsters; here is MY top 5 things to do with your poke-mad kids! Grab your pokeballs, several potions and take heed from Professor Stress.
But firstly
Are you a boy or a girl?
5. Watch it!
I personally grew up with Pokemon and I love the nostalgia of re watching the original Indigo league episodes. Back when Ash was really 10, Misty was obsessing about her bike and Brock well, lets not go there. This is a great way for beginner trainer parents to figure out what Pokemon is about. It explains the basics of what being a Pokemon trainer means and how the world of Pokemon works. You also learn about the different Pokemon and types and is fun to watch (whilst thinking i'm glad he's not my kid, what ARE you doing child?). If like me you are already a poke-parent the latest series (sun and moon) is a great way to learn about all these new spangled Z moves, gen 7 Pokemon and trying to figure out the answer to Ash's eternal youth. It will also give you a focus point for little discussions with your child/ren and the "Who's that Pokemon" never gets old. (Well not for me anyway).
(Clearly it's Charazard)
4. The video games
Ah the video games, OK so you have a lot of choice here! I am still currently on Pokemon moon, however on my 3DS I have the original Blue, Yellow and Silver. Pokemon games come in pairs generally, granted back in the good old days there would be a 3rd installment. If you REALLY want to know what gives your child so much joy out of the game, play it. For example; I have Pokemon Blue, my DD has Pokemon Red. What is the point you ask? well there are Pokemon in both games which are not available in the other, plus some Pokemon require to be traded in order to evolve them. This has always been a standard in the games and I think it is a great feature. Nowadays you can just link to each others devices via Bluetooth/ internet but waaaaay back in its infancy I was sat sat school with my mate trading via link cable. There is also now a GTS which you can use to trade with people all over the world and wonder trade. Put a Pokemon on wonder trade and literally wonder what you will get in exchange. You can also battle with your child to see who's skills are best and it is a wonderful way to interact with your child.
3. YouTube
YouTube! Who doesn't love YouTube, you can find all sorts of amazing videos on YouTube for Pokemon. From Let's plays, to theories, explanations and creepypasta (do not recommend creepypasta for children). One of my favorite YouTubers (and DDs) is Lockstin and Gnoggin. He has a series which explains all the different types of Pokemon and why they are classed as that type. I also found it quiet educational. Explore, Learn, Evolve!
2.Trading Card Game
The trading card game is so much fun! You both have a deck of 60 cards, the aim of the game is to well, knock the other trainer out. Using your tactical skills and the instructions on your cards to win the game. There are so many decks out there and you can make your own deck to how you desire. Also its not just how good your deck is, like most games it is down to the luck of the cards. The amount of time I have lost because I picked up hardly any energy cards is unbelievable. Yes you have your Pokemon, add energy cards to it to use moves. You win by either collecting all 6 of your prize cards or the other player runs out of cards. The only way to get a prize card is to knock out your opponents Pokemon . In fact I am really rubbish at explaining this so I will leave that to my final entry....
1. Pokemon Trading Card Game Online
Yes Back to online gaming. But don't worry! As the parent you can create your account on www.pokemon.com under TCGO. Then you add your child(ren) TO your account. (internet safety for the win) TCGO has a brilliant tutorial on how to play the game and you don't even need to pay a penny! You start with standard decks and play what are essentially NPCs to learn the game, unlock cards and even decks. By winning games you can get Poke-dollers which you can use in the store to buy new decks! If NPCs are not your thing you can play VS which is playing with other actual players. "But I don't want my child playing with strangers!" I hear you yell. Don' worry they can stick to the NPCs, but to be honest even if they play other players they will be safe as people can only communicate though 4 emojis. Yeah literally NO game chat. They cant even get details apart from the game name and that will be registered under YOUR parent account so again internet safety for the win. I love this platform so much, also if you buy booster packs or decks from a shop, it will come with a code on it, you enter that code into the PTCGO and more cards for online! WIN!
Anyway I hope that has helped all of you poke-parents out a bit. Let me know what you think in the comments! Don't forget to share with all your other Poke-pals 😼. Right I am off to finish doing what ever I was doing before I started writing this... eh coffee?
So take care everyone! don't forget you can find me lurking in these places too!
